Usenet Hierarchies

by Ryan Lane on November 25, 2005

Usenet HierarchiesUsenet Hierarchies is a box plot visualization of usenet usage. The size of the boxes are related to the number of posts in a usenet newsgroup. I really like how you can view the plots by month all the way back to 1999. The red color shows decreasing usage while green shows increased activity. This is an interesting perspective on the usenet zeitgeist created by Marc Smith.
